Haul - MegaCare

This is a little something I'd like to add to the blog. I thought i should separate my 'Lagos Discoveries' from my 'Purchases'. I'll tell you all about my discoveries in one post and then show you stuff I get from them in another. But I will never show you stuff from a store I haven't blogged about yet? Got it? Ok

So here is my first ever solo HAUL post! *excited* I'd rather call it a mini-haul to be honest lol

This is the reason I went in search of Megacare in the first place. Well, not this particular brand but  Gilette Venus Divine Goddess Shaving Gel. I cannot seem to find this anywhere in Lagos and also could not seem to find a suitable replacement either. Until now!

I honestly do not know if this is for guys or ladies, it does have a faint 'zing-y' smell that men's shaving stuff usually have. It's not overpowering at all, and you only get a whiff of it suddenly... and then it's gone. lol. Or it might just be my paranoia.

Now THIS! This is what I was excited to get. My friend has got the most perfectly filled-in eyebrows and I asked her what she used randomly one day. She said 'Spiked' by MAC. I personally don't have to do much to my brows, except thread them. I have got the odd space here and there and I usually fill mine in with some eyeshadow using a slanted brush and set with brow gel.

I have seen quite a few reviews of this product in the beauty blogosphere and after seeing them in action on my friend. I thought.. why not! So far, no regrets! :). But I still prefer my method, or maybe I just need to get used to this.

So there's my first haul. Let me know if you guys would be interested in more posts like this. Also let me know if you ever visit Megacare and tell me what you got! Till next time

Mega Care Pharmacy

One day while reading up my timeline on twitter I saw someone tweet something along the lines of "I loove MegaCare on Awolowo Road, I'm such a beauty junkie" and someone retweeted it with the reply: "Yeah, me too, but their prices are ridiculous". All my brain computed was Mega Care. Beauty Junkie. Awolowo Road. Need to go there, FAST! lol. I tweeted from my personal twitter account asking if anyone knew where MegaCare was on Awolowo Road, like what landmark was around it. Because we all know, house/building numbers don't work in Lagos. Driving down a street looking for Number 5, u go from 19, to 18, 17, 16, then 13 next thing you see 146! what the...? lol. The things we go through around here, haha!!

Anyways, no one replied my tweet, as always (there's a rant in there, but I shall not digress). One random day while I was heading to a friend's house off Awolowo Road, I saw this white pristine building and it had one of those electronic 'scrolly' things and the words read 'Mega Care', I was like Bingo!! I planned to go back on Sunday, because parking off Awolowo Road during the week is a total nightmare, Sundays are saner.

I did a little dance when I got out of my car! I was THAT happy.. I'm such a loser

I am so happy that my expectations were met. It is a well-stocked shop.

They've got some MAC products in there, reasonable priced as well. It is obvious that the shades and items sourced were carefully thought-out and limited to the popular products amongst ladies in Nigeria. They've got the popular eyebrow pencils in 'Spiked' and 'Stud'. Studio Finish Liquid Foundation, Studio Finish Powder, Lip Liners and other items.

They also have an OPI stand in there, with quite a good collection of shades

This Aromatherapy Stand had stuff from The Body Shop, Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret

I actually went in to look for some shaving gel, because I just can't seem to find my usual one out here (Gilette Venus Divine Shaving Gel). I secretly prayed they might have it stock, unfortunately they didn't. But they did have other good alternatives. I'll do a blog post on the items I got.

This made me do a little squeal! They've Eylure lashes in there. I only wear strip falsies (don't like the individuals) when I've got a big night out or to events, just generally when I feel like I want to dress up. And Eylure's are my favorites, MAC comes in at a close second.

They also got a few of the Girl's Aloud lashes as well. Hint: Cheryl's are the best (in my opinion)

OPI Nail Polish: N2200

lol! Pathetic pricing I know, that's the only one I remembered.

96 Awolowo Road,

I believe I have listed quite a few beauty/skin care supply stores on here. But I still have a couple more to share and discover! :)

What other lush pharmacies have we got in lagos?

Cloud9 Food

If you are a 9-5er like myself, you WILL appreciate this post.. trust me. Not about beauty this time, but my blog is about sharing my Lagos discoveries. Ladies do eat!

So here's a company I've seen floating around twitter for quite some time now, but I never really paid as much attention. This was until some time last week when I wanted something different for lunch. You know how it goes in the office, we've got our in-house caterers or the regular fast-food restaurant/chinese  that you order from. But sometimes you just want a change. Cloud 9 was that 'change' for me.

I got their number off a friend, placed my order, stated what time and wanted it delivered, and got it!

This was what I ordered  rice, with chicken and plantain (excuse the mess on my desk). I know, quite a 'regular' order, but it tastes MUCH better than 'regular', trust me

I absolutely LOVE their presentation. I was expecting the usual tin-foil (or is it aluminium? :s) boxes with the cardboard top. But this was nice! Reminds me of the little plates I had when I was growing up, with the partitions in them... Anyways

So here is how they work. You send an email to their box to be added to their mailing list, and then you get sent a Daily Brief of the food menu on every working day of the week, Monday to Friday. They've got three categories on the menu. The 'Mainstays' which are basically what they have available on the menu everyday and a 'Daily Special' which is the special dish for the day, a different one from Monday-Thursday. And then on Fridays they've got what they call 'Barbie Friday', which basically means they've got barbecued meats on the menu.

Here's a little visual of what the menu looked like on Thursday

This past Friday I ordered something from the 'Barbie Friday' offerings. Brown-Sugar Glazed Barbecue Chops with MacandCheese! YUM! Don't you love their presentation?

'Food Glorious Food!' That's their slogan, very apt!!

Here's what a Barbie (Barbecue) Friday menu looks like

To be added to their mailing list email: cloud9food[at]gmail[dot]com

Telephone Numbers you can place your orders on (or ask what's on the menu for the day): 07043759329 & 08131384611

You can also order by sending it through to their email address!

Oh and they also offer catering services if you are interested...

Any other lunch-time food vendors with interesting menus?

So this is some interesting news... House of Tara, one of our very own indigenous Makeup Brands will be the official makeup company at this year's Arise Magazine Fashion Week (AMFW). In case you've been living under a rock, the event kicks off next week Tuesday, 6th of March and runs for 7days.

When my friend told me about this, first thing that went through my head was 'ooooooh interesting'... because I've been meaning to try out some stuff from this brand. Can't wait to see the looks they churn out for the runway!

Have a look at their official press release below:

The organizers of the 2012 Arise Magazine Fashion Week are proud to announce an exclusive partnership with leading Nigerian make-up company, House of Tara. Under the terms of this partnership, House of Tara will act as official make-up company for the 2012 Arise Fashion Week, designing, coordinating and styling make-up looks for the entire runway event. House of Tara Director, Tara Fela-Durotoye confirmed the news and assured would-be guests at the Fashion Week of a spectacular feast for the eyes. “At any fashion show or runway event, the job of the make-up artist is to enhance and amplify the designer’s creations, and to give the audience a fashion-forward, visually titillating experience. At House of Tara, we know all about the art of make-up, but we are also experts at creating an experience using our palettes and brushes. Our work is memorable for all the right reasons,” she added.

House of Tara was also the official make-up company to the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week which took place in October 2011.  Their stunning runway looks and professional demeanour endeared them to the organizers, designers and models alike, engendering a buzz that has remained to date. The Arise Magazine Fashion Week, which is scheduled to run from March 6th to March 11th 2012, will no doubt boost House of Tara’s reputation as Nigeria’s preferred make-up company.

This really is good news! I love it when we recognize our own.

Anyone heading to the shows this year?
