Hi Guys! Hope you are all well.

So a few weeks ago I  attended a little jazz night with my friend in Ikoyi, Lagos. I noticed her face was ‘glowy’, kind of when ones got a bit of highlighter on the cheeks, forehead and down the bridge of the nose. I asked her what highlighter it was and she said she didn’t have any on. I said ok what blusher then, obviously assuming it must have been a blusher with some shimmer in it, once again she said she didn’t have that on either. She then told me it was this new powder she got from SLEEK. I asked her for details and she said it was the Sleek ‘Suede Effect’ Powder.

I had seen them on the Konga website when I was having a browse so I made a mental note to purchase it. I asked her what shade she got and she said ’02’. I have a couple Sleek face powders in my collection one of them’s called the ‘Luminous Pressed Powder’, and this powder comes in a pack exactly identical to the Suede Effect one. I’ve got the Luminous powder in the shade ’01’ and since my friend is darker than I am and she had it in ’02’, I guessed the ’01’ would be perfect for me and it was!

I present to you the powder that really is something special. Sleek Makeup ‘Suede Effect Pressed Powder’. And its got SPF in it, that can only be an amazing bonus. Cannot stress enough how important sun protection is. Please please please ensure you ALWAYS wear makeup that’s got sun protection in it, or if you haven’t got any foundation/powder with SPF. Look for a day-cream (face cream) thats got SPF. Sun damage is irreversible and its got so many adverse effects. And not just the face, your entire body needs to be protected too.

I tell you, this powder is very lightweight and applies smoothly on the skin. You will honestly feel like you haven’t got anything on.

It only comes in 4 shades from 01 to 04. But do not be put off by this at all, as this powder is quite translucent and a shade can cater to a range of skin tones that fall within the same color base.

Like I mentioned earlier my friend is about the shade NW45 in MAC shade-terms and the shade 02 is a perfect match for her. I would say these powders are a bit translucent, but offer enough coverage. So the color range might be small, but it will suit almost all skin tones

I couldn’t just purchase one item! what would the beauty-gods say?? Had to get something else.

Got this gorgeous Coral lipstick from Revlon.

I had a similar one from MAC. But I lost it (or someone stole it *side eye*) and I thought this might be a decent replacement.

I wore it over the weekend and I was impressed. Never tried any lipsticks from Revlon and this wasn’t a bad first impression. Although the its not got as much staying power on the lips as, say MAC. But for a drugstore lipstick its not bad.

Its got good pigmentation and a creamy texture. The popular preference for bright colored lipstick is a matte finish, but I tend to prefer mine to have a slightly creamy texture. But not too creamy that it borders on ‘slippery’. Just smooth enough to apply on the lips without ‘dragging’. This is the MAIN reason I don’t share the enormous love that everyone has for RubyWoo, honestly. Yes, its a universal red but its a VERY unforgiving lipstick, very drying and ‘drags’ like no other when being applied.. But this is a rant for another day

Only gripe with this product is that its got a very weird shape, especially the end of it. You know how most lipsticks have got the usual ‘dip’ on one side? Well this has got a ‘dip’ on both sides, it looks like the sharp end of a screwdriver (sorry, I’m really struggling to describe this). Both sides have got this ‘dip’ and due to this the top of the lipstick is a straight-line. I tried to capture this in a picture, but no joy.

This really does not affect the application, its just unusual thats all.

So there you go! Yet another mini-haul from Konga. I am honestly addicted to that site and I am so happy theres a place we makeup addicts in Lagos can go and indulge. Just need them to add more exciting items to their stock.

Got anything off Konga recently?

This is just a little something I thought I’d add to my blog content. Sharing some of my personal tips with you guys. I have been thinking about how to present this and I love what I have decided to use.

First in this new series will be lip care. You can get away with lip glosses but there are many lipsticks that are quite unforgiving on unkempt lips. Case in point, the cult product MAC’s ‘Ruby Woo’. A Matte (and all-too-drying) lipstick that majority of we ladies love ( I don’t, quite frankly I think there are many other ‘Reds’ out there), because it seems to be ‘Universal Red’ i.e. it works with any skin tone.

Hope you enjoyed my little Tip!

Last weekend my friend and I decided to go makeup/skincare shopping. She had been telling me about this place that she goes to regularly for her facials (although she’s stopped now) and to replenish her skincare stash.

I have gone past this place a few times, in fact my mum’s hairdresser used to work out of one of the salons in here. So she was a frequent visitor until said stylist moved and so did she. It’s funny how we ladies will follow our stylists anywhere and everywhere they go (within reason of course. Not following no hairdresser to say, Abuja. No thanks!!).

Entrance

I must say I was deceived by the exterior of this place. Its actually really spacious in there, its even got a mini courtyard (and a bar/lounge to boot, called Greenwich).

Reception Area

After having a browse of the salons on the premises. We headed to the beauty-hall.

Now this is the most impressive beauty-hall I’ve come across so far in lagos. Have a look at the pictures

These candles smelt absolutely divine.

Been dreaming about them since I saw them and after looking at these pictures again, think I’m heading back Saturday to pick one up. Just got back from a business trip and my hotel room smelt funny, one of these candles would’ve been handy.

I wasn’t allowed behind the counter (honestly being a beauty blogger in this place is a chore, you don’t even know the half of it, anyway..),

They’ve got an extensive selection of MAC products, NYX, Revlon and Maybelline eyeshadows etc.

They also offer various facials and treatments and are happy to have a consultation. I haven’t personally had any treatments done with them, quite happy with my beautician at the moment so will be sticking with (Lakshmi at Facial Bar). But they seem really popular and I know quite a few people that go here, always worth a try.

I got something from the beauty hall, will share that in another post.

I was so excited when I was told that the Wow! Nails concession at L’Espace were going to offer the ‘Caviar’ manicure as one of their services. I had been intrigued by this manicure for quite a while, so could not wait to try it out!

I have provided a little step-by-step guide on how it all went down. Enjoy!

My nails were buffed and tidied first. My natural nails were used for this, no extensions or acrylics here. Although I think you can have this manicure on both natural and artificial nails.

Picked out my manicure. The caviar manicure options are the two at the bottom-left of the picture. The other options are similar but instead of microbeads, these are crystal-like flakes. They look more like massive ‘Glitter’ scales. Another interesting manicure to check out.

Picked out a base color for my nails. PINK, of course 🙂

Such a gorgeous pink. At this point I honestly thought, just ditch the caviar and rock my nails like this. But that thought faded real quick. Was too excited to get going with the beads.

I love these multicolored microbeads. Something very ‘tutti-frutti’ about them

How do they beads stay on? It’s all down to good ol’ nail adhesive. You know the sort they use for stick-on nail extensions, yup.

So the nail adhesive is applied all over the nail and then the microbeads are spread evenly over it. Once a bead hits the nail it sticks. Obviously there will be some fall out, but with my hand held over the case, they just fall back into it. Now I got this done to all my nails, yup all TEN of them. But they did not photograph as pretty as I wanted.

I would advice getting this done as a ‘feature nail’. Basically what this means is while the rest of your nails are all a similar color, there’s one that will be different. It could be a different nail color on this one nail, or some nail-art, or in this case a caviar nail. Usually the ‘feature nail’ of choice is the ring finger, but you can get it done on any nail. You can even have two feature nails. So yeah, I’d definitely advice getting this on just the one.

Just an extra Instagram shot I posted of my nails last week! This manicure lasted about a week.

Hi Everyone!
I apologise for the lack of posts! Been having serious ISP issues. I could actually type up an entire ‘Woe Is Me’ post, and just moan about the difficulties of running a blog in this country. Honestly, it’s ridiculous! But I am back and I’ve got quite a backlog of posts to get out, so let’s get to it.
A few weeks ago I made my first ever online order in NIGERIA!… Ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, I have ordered from ASOS, Net-a-Porter etc. from here but what I mean is ordering from a Nigerian Online store that allows you to pay for your items online and delivers to your doorstep!
Konga is an online store that delivers within Lagos (for now, I hope they expand soon). They sell a whole range of stuff from homeware and appliances, to office supplies, baby care and my favorite bit of the store BEAUTY&SKINCARE! Their service is unbelievable! You can pay online or on delivery, and get this, you can pay by cash OR card on delivery. I know most people, especially those who do not live in Nigeria will not understand why this is a big deal…. but trust me, it IS!

I placed my order at 10.20am on a tuesday at the office, I was surprised there was an available delivery timeslot the same day, picked between 3-5pm and my package arrived at 3.30pm. I must say, excellent excellent service I cannot say this enough, I was gobsmacked. I went down to collect and pay for my delivery only to be told I could pay with my card if I wanted to, went for that option straight away.

I didn’t really get much, primarily because I got practically all I needed during my summer break, but the ‘addict’ in me just could not resist. And the items I got quite simply depict the fact that I just picked ‘anything’.
Ok, so this first item was a huge HUGE mistake. I honestly thought I was getting like a highlighter of some sort. But it seems I got a tanning lotion.
I was very disappointed with this, the words ‘Sun Kissed’ should’ve been a warning for me. But when I saw those words I do not know why I thought ‘Glow’, so I automatically assumed Highlighter. It’s the blonde in me honestly, because CLEARLY ‘Sun Kissed’ means just that, kissed by the sun, which means TANNED!
Like I said, I was just looking for what to buy. So I really do not need to say much about this product, I don’t need a tan or anything of the sort… So this shall be going to the bottom of my‘you-never-know-when-you-may-need-it-and-you-most-likely-never-will’ basket underneath my vanity table!
Now with this product I am not sure how I feel about it. But I dislike it more than I actually like it, mainly because of the smell. It’s got quite an unpleasant smell, it almost made me not want to apply it to my face at all. I bought it because I wanted some sort of powder to set my under-eye concealer. It’s from a brand called ‘Yardley London’, never heard of it, got it in the shade ‘Medium Light 03’, but I don’t see the shade coming through at all. I’d describe it as a transclucent powder because I won’t say there’s any pigmentation to it.
Positive side though, I did not react to it… that’s ALWAYS a good thing for me when it comes to make up. Haven’t used it since the first time, but I’m gonna keep it because I am a makeup hoarder! (the first step to recovery is confession, right?)

Ok, so this is the ONE product in my box that I was happy with. Saint Germain lipstick by MAC.

This is part of the Amplified finish family and as is synonymous with all lipsticks in this finish, it is very pigmented and opaque. I would describe this as a bright pale pink with a blueish-purple undertone.
This is quite a difficult colour to wear as unlike bright red lipsticks which make your teeth appear whiter, this shade actual brings out the yellow in your teeth… who wants that??
So I’d advise to be careful with this lipstick, and apply with a very light hand. I typically wear this with some baby-pink shade lipgloss over the top, just to mute it out a little.
So there you go, sorry if this post was a bit of a downer, but I always want to share all my beauty-related finds with you guys. So make sure you check out KONGA. Like I said, I’ve essentially got all I need in the beauty department, so didn’t really need anything from the site. So please don’t let this post deter you, they have got an AMAZING selection of products on there. From Maybelline, to Bourjois even YSL Touche Eclat is on there. And their customer service is literally the BEST I have experienced in this country.

Hi Everyone!
So, as promised, I got a few items from the LMUF last weekend and I did say I was gonna share with you all what I got. So enjoy!

First item I got was from Sacred.

It’s a MAC PlushGlass lipgloss called ‘Butterfly Dream’ and it’s  not opaque at all.

You can see the shimmer in this picture

In fact I’ll describe it as a sheer purple gloss with blue, purple and silver shimmer running through it. I do notice a little sheen of color when it’s on my lips. But for the most part it’s really sheer but very glossy. Oh, not sure you guys know this but the ‘Plush Glass’ formula glosses from MAC are actually ‘plumping glosses’. That is they plump up your lip to make them appear fuller. So this lipgloss does sting a little like all other plumping glosses.

The ‘Plush Glass’ formula is really just to give a high-shine glossy effect. I just wanted a gloss I can wear when I don’t feel like wearing color on my lips, but still want it to look like ‘interesting’.. Can’t really explain it.

BarryM Cosmestics!!!

BarryM Cosmetics Nail Polish “Matte White 66′: N960
So last week was the MTV VMAs and I noticed Rihanna’s toenails on the red carpet were White! I thought, I need me some white toenails too. So this was just perfect, got myself a nail polish from BarryM called ‘Matt White’, and it’s a true-white color. I hate when white nail-polish isn’t white-white!
BarryM Lipstick ‘153’: N1860
The Lipstick color is number ‘153’ and it’s a nice coral-pink. This so weird because the other day I was after a Coral lipstick (even tweeted about it) and I found THIS at the fair… FATE! The texture is like the typical BarryM creamy and the color payoff is awesome. Very opaque. Can’t type a proper review till I’ve used it for a few weeks.

So, funny story. I love using NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils as a base for my eyeshadows. I feel they really make my eyeshadow pop. I’ve got the white jumbo pencil (Milk) and the black (Black Bean). I use the white one when I’m going for a bridal-esque look and the black is a perfect base when I want to do a smokey eye. SO BACK TO MY STORY, I saw the pens and thought “yay more jumbo pencils for me”. Picked the colors I wanted, paid for them, got home to take pictures for this post and noticed that they are actually infact LIP PENCILS! Jumbo LIP Pencils. I got the wrong ones!! hahahah!. In all my excitement, I forgot to actually CHECK what I was getting. But you know what? I’m still going to use them on my eyes.
I got three pencils.
NYX Jumbo Lip Pencils ‘703 Pink Nude’ & ‘708 Iced Mocha’: N1800 each
They would work as eyeshadow bases, don’t you think? Who would wear such colors on their lips anyway (totally trying to convince myself here. work with me! lol)
NYX Long Pencil Lip ‘LPL18 Pinky’: N1800
The lip pencil is a gorgeous really bright deep-pink! Very bold color. It reminds me of MAC’s ‘Girl About Town’ Lipstick.

(Typing this address up for the NYX vendor I’m like “OMG THEY ARE NOT IN LAGOS!!!! WHYYYYYY!”. Like seriously? In London I have to order it online and then in Lagos I’m gonna have to get them to deliver as well. NYX, Y U NO LIKE ME?)
And now for the Pièce De Résistance !
I got an acrylic stand! In Lagos, yes!
Its got four levels and three cylinder-like holes running up one side.
It was really weird, my girl was talking to the lady at the stand telling her about my makeup acrylic drawers. Showing her pictures and asking if she had anything similar. And the lady explained to us that why she doesn’t bring a lot of these acrylic stands in is because they are very fragile and always break.
Acrylic Stand: N3500
And I totally understood her, because the way I got mine safely to Lagos was I put them in my pull-man. Like that was ALL I had in my little suitcase, I sacrificed my laptop, some powder makeup and a bunch of other stuff for those drawers to make it to Lagos safely. Ridiculous.
Soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to use it for. A stand for my nailpolish. This did not take up all my polish, so I’m going to buy another. My friends also go one each and they’re using theirs for their makeup and brushes. I’ll take a picture of theirs and write up a little post on it to give you guys more ideas on what to do with the stand.
Unfortunately I haven’t got any contact details for this vendor yet, but Mo’ got her number so I’ll get that off her and update this post with them. This Vendor had other acrylic stands, there was one with little holes for lipsticks (think you can see that in my sneak peak photo in the other LMUF post)

UPDATE!! Vendor Details!

So that’s all I got from the Fair. I haven’t used any of the makeup yet ( I just got them), so can’t do a proper review. I will have up reviews in a couple weeks, let you all know how I get on! Hope you guys enjoyed looking at what I got. Let me know what you  got if you attended the fair and also please tell me if you contact/visit any of these vendors, I wanna know what you get (nosey..lol)

So over the weekend I attended the first ever Lagos Makeup Fair. I had NO idea what to expect, but the word ‘Makeup’ in the title got me! I heard about it on twitter (gotta love social media) and just asked for more info. So saturday came around dragged my makeup-obssessed-now-turned-skincare-obssessed friend Tallulah and my girl Mo’ and we headed down to Ikeja for the event.

It was Makeup Heaven, there were a lot of vendors, I think I got there a little late. The event was scheduled for 10am-7pm, I strolled in at 5pm x_x (In my defense it was a HOT saturday, and we didn’t really fancy walking around dripping in sweat, and we guessed it was gonna be in a marquee of some sort, so we waited till the sun had gone down a bit).

But there were still a lot of Vendors and Merchants there. Makeup Brands: Sleek, Sacred, BarryM and NYX. I did a little scream when I saw the NYX stand, unreal! Then there were a host of vendors selling limited selections from popular brands like MAC, Fashion Fair, Mary Kay, E.L.F, Iman, Inglot etc.

I did get a few things from the fair (haul post up later this week), but here are pictures I took of a few stands at the fair. Enjoy!

OMG!! A  NYX stand! Like everything on it was NYX. So unreal! I loved it. Didn’t know where to start. I was so overwhelmed, that I was confused on what to get. So just ended up getting a couple things, don’t you HATE when that happens.
More NYX. And the picture below as well. They had quite good selection.
Nail Polish, Eyeshadows, Lipsticks and Glosses. Powder, Foundation etc.

BarryM!! Great selection as well. Got some items from them too!

So that’s how it all went down (for me anyway), there were so many colors everywhere it was unreal. Like the nail polish and eyeshadows at every stand! It was so awesome! Loved that such an event took place in Lagos and I’m glad I could make it.

I wasn’t really impressed by the Sleek stand, mostly because I was after two items and they didn’t have them (don’t think they’re available in Nigeria yet). Their Sleek ‘Blush By Three’ palette and the Sleek ‘Shimmer Brick’. I have got a ‘Blush By Three’ palette, but I didn’t get it here. If you want to know what exactly it is, leave a comment below and I’ll do a little post about it (swatches and all).

So my next post will be a haul post of items I got. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s to come:

Just wanted to take this opportunity to THANK everyone that reads this blog! The support is awesome and I’m gonna try to post more often, thanks for coming back again and again.
