Recently, Forbes published their annual ‘America’s Richest Self-Made Women’ list. This is the publication’s 4th edition and is a ranking of the most successful women entrepreneurs in America. The 60 women selected recorded a combined net worth of $71 billion, up 15% from $61.5 billion in 2017. The list recognises women who have shattered ceilings and scaled new heights in a wide variety of disciplines, from genetic testing to slimming shapewear & cosmetics. The minimum net worth needed to make this year’s list is $320 million, up from $260 million last year.

I’m sure a lot of you have heard about this list, particularly the fact that Kylie Jenner was on the list as the youngest of the lot, but did you know there were 5 other beauty entrepreneurs as well. I wanted to highlight this fact and also encourage every other beauty entrepreneur out there to keep pushing and some day you too will be shattering ceilings and defying the norm! Here’s a list of all the beauty entreprenuers, their rankings and the brands they own:

  • Dermatologist Kathy Fields and her business partner Katie Rodan have created two successful skincare brands: Proactiv Solutions and Rodan + Fields.
  • In May 2018, private equity firm TPG spent $1 billion to buy a 25% stake in Rodan + Fields.
  • Rodan + Fields borrowed $600 million in junk bonds in June 2018 and used it to pay the founders a dividend.
  • Revenues of Rodan + Fields grew 50% in 2017 to $1.5 billion; the direct marketing firm conducts sales through some 200,000 ‘consultants.’
  • In 2016, the two dermatologists sold their Proactiv royalties to a joint venture between Guthy Renker and Nestle, which markets the product.

  • Dermatologist Rodan co-created acne treatment Proactiv and launched skin-care company Rodan + Fields with longtime business partner Kathy Fields.
  • In May 2018, private equity firm TPG spent $1 billion to buy a 25% stake in Rodan + Fields.
  • Rodan + Fields borrowed $600 million in junk bonds in June 2018 and used it to pay the founders a dividend.
  • Revenues of Rodan + Fields grew 50% in 2017 to $1.5 billion; the direct marketing firm conducts sales through more than 200,000 ‘consultants.’
  • In 2016, the two dermatologists sold their Proactiv royalties to a joint venture between Guthy Renker and Nestle, which markets the product.

  • Make-up mogul Anastasia Soare has made a fortune applying the golden ratio–used by the ancient Greeks and Leonardo da Vinci–to eyebrows.
  • Born in Romania, she immigrated to Los Angeles in 1989 and got a job in a beauty salon.
  • Three years later, she struck out on her own, and in 2000, she launched a line of eyebrow products under the name Anastasia Beverly Hills.
  • Sales took off after her daughter Claudia, who is the company’s president, began promoting the brand on Instagram.
  • The company now sells more than 480 products in over 3,000 stores; revenues are estimated at more than $200 million.

  • The most junior member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan is also its richest thanks to her fast-growing makeup brand Kylie Cosmetics.
  • Famous for its $29 lip liner and lipstick “lip kits,” Kylie Cosmetics has since expanded into eyeshadow, highlighter, eyeliner and more.
  • Its limited edition product “drops” create giant flash sales, as in November 2016 when her holiday collection snagged nearly $19 million in 24 hours.
  • Kylie Cosmetics has sold more than $630 million worth of makeup since its founding in February 2016.
Jenner owns 100% of the company

  • Miserable in her finance job, Kattan quit to become a makeup artist and then launched a blog in 2010. It is now the Internet’s most-read beauty blog.
  • Kattan started Huda Beauty with her two sisters in 2013 when she couldn’t find false eyelashes to buy.<br>
  • Today, Huda Beauty sells more than 140 products from eyeshadow pallets to lip gloss, which bring in at least $200 million in annual sales.
  • Private equity firm TSG Consumer Partners acquired a small minority stake at the end of 2017. It is now valued at more than $1 billion.

Last week Tuesday, after a few weeks implementing our Transition Plan, a post was shared on our Instagram page (@BeautyInLagos) that I was no longer the sole BeautyInLagos-narrative, which means I will no longer be the only person contributing to this Platform; this also includes social media. I felt the need to share that and publish this post because it’s only right to explain the changes that you all may have started noticing. I started BeautyInLagos 6 years ago in the hopes to bridge a gap that, at the time, existed; people needed information and no one was really willing to share it. So I started a blog to share all I knew about Beauty In Lagos, which expanded to include beauty in Nigeria, really. But I always knew that there was only so much I could share, so I hoped that as I shared more people will then be willing to share as well, and then BeautyInLagos (BiL) would grow into an actual Beauty Community where we all shared our knowledge and discoveries with one another. To be honest, I thought it would take a few years to manifest that plan, but in actual fact it’s taken 6! *lol, oh, the things life will teach you*

I’ve always created content for both the blog and it’s social media pages, but now it’s time for me to allow BiL grow and expand into a Team that Creates, Curates & Cultivates content; for both this Site and it’s Social Media Platforms.

What does all this mean? Just, BETTER CONTENT! For 6years you’ve pretty-much heard just one side of the story, now you get to enjoy content from carefully selected Contributors and our team of Beauty Editors. I will also still be contributing to the site, because BiL will forever be my Baby even though she’s growing up!

The BeautyInLagos message remains the same, but the vision is expanding and I’m most definitely still in charge! You can keep up with me personally by following my new Instagram & Twitter pages: @Eziface

Thank you all for being a part of my journey this past 6years and I pray you continue to be a part of this exciting new chapter we are about to embark on. #BiLFam.

Not entirely sure HOW I missed this, but I went to the Palms Mall this morning and I noticed this shiny new Bobbi Brown store. They already have a store in Abuja, which I shared with you guys here, and I knew they were set to launch another here in Lagos, just didn’t know when.

Well, it’s open guys! I only managed to get a few pictures of their space on my phone, but if you’ve seen my post about the Abuja store, the decor and design are pretty much the exact same thing.

Surprise! Well, if you are observant you may have noticed the ‘Shop‘ items that have been scrolling along on the homepage all week while we were testing it out. Ever since I started BeautyInLagos I’ve received emails, DMs and tweets from people asking if I sell a certain product, some even ask where my store is located. So for me, incorporating a well-curated online store, into BeautyInLagos, is only a natural progression.

The idea is to give you guys that instant gratification where, if I talk about or recommend a product and you want to try it out too, then you can just buy it!

The BeautyInLagos Shop is open for business. It honestly has been a long time coming, now you can shop products I talk about/recommend, directly here on the blog! This has been in the works since March 2017, but the perfectionist in me wanted to get it as perfect as possible. So say hello to #ShopBiL, where you can shop items & products I love. Items sold won’t necessarily be limited to just beauty products, if it’s something I like and think you guys would love as well, I will have it available in the online store.

There’s already a few stuff available and a lot more being added frequently, click here to browse.

Let me know what you think about this new feature in the comments!
