Can we talk about how totally wrong it is to think that caring for your skin is all about the products you buy? That couldn’t be further from the truth! Loading your bathroom cabinet with all the best skincare money can buy will do absolutely nothing for you, without consistency.

Habits are built from consistency, and this happens over time. The great thing about good habits is that they are free and can be achieved by anyone. So if you are determined to have healthy glowing skin, starting today, here are 7 easy-to-remember habits to imbibe:

1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Hydration is important. It’s summer now in most countries, and even in Nigeria, the weather is humid. Consuming up to 2.7 litres of water (about 11 cups), daily is essential.

Drinking water as often as required does not only to hydrate your body, but it also helps get rid it of waste via urine or sweat. Your skin is an organ and it tells when you’re dehydrated by looking dull, being prone to acne, etc.

2. EXFOLIATE

The skin naturally exfoliates itself, as healthy skin is renewed every 28-30days due to regeneration of skin cells in the basal layer of the skin. However a number of factors can affect how this natural process occurs which can result in buildup on the skin. Adding a method of exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells & buildup revealing the new, glowing skin. You can have an easy frequency to remember, e.g: twice a week for your face and body.

3. DON’T NEGLECT YOUR DIET

This is one I must admit I’m guilty of. Sometimes I binge on snacks and neglect my fruit intake. This is a good reminder to take your vitamin supplements. The nutrients we get have a role to play in how our skin looks and aids a healthy skin!

4. INVEST IN GOOD SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Good quality yields better results. Please remember that expensive doesn’t always equal better. Find a good store with reviews and credibility and invest in the right products that work for YOUR skin

5. HAVE A CONSISTENT NIGHTTIME ROUTINE

Please don’t ever neglect your night time routine. While the day may have been busy and it’s easy to just want to dive right into bed at night, this is THE best time to nourish your skin. Why? Because night time is when your skin begins to recuperate & heal. To make it less stressful, reduce the steps in your routine and try not to sleep with your makeup.

6. SPF ALL DAY, EVERYDAY

Sunscreen is that product we can think is negotiable because the effect isn’t immediate like other products. One habit for healthy skin is daily sunscreen use and avoiding being out in the sun for extended periods. It combats hyperpigmentation in the long run and protects against skin cancer.

7. TREAT YOUR SKIN WITH LOVE

Another effective habit for healthy glowing skin is to treat your skin gently. When you apply products, don’t rub them harshly and use gently circular motions while cleansing (both face and body).

That’s it for now, beauty! Consistency is a game changer so don’t be discouraged. I wish your skin a thriving journey to a healthy version.
