The African beauty industry is evolving, creating new opportunities for businesses, professionals and entrepreneurs across the continent. But as the sector grows, so does the need for stronger industry standards, better business practices, greater consumer confidence and more investment in the people and infrastructure that will support its future.
What will it take to build the beauty industry we want?

This is the thinking behind the Beauty West Africa Conference 2026, where industry leaders, beauty entrepreneurs, brand founders, practitioners and subject-matter experts will come together for two days of conversations and practical learning contributing to the development of Africa’s beauty industry.
While the three-day exhibition provides a platform for brands to connect, showcase innovations, explore commercial opportunities and engage with the wider African beauty market, the two-day conference offers something equally important: a space for the industry to exchange knowledge, examine its challenges and explore what comes next.
The conversations we have, the standards we establish and the businesses we build will all contribute to the future of African beauty. Creating spaces for these conversations is an important part of moving the industry forward.

More Than an Exhibition: The Beauty West Africa Conference
As the official conference partner, BeautyInLagos has developed a programme that brings together industry leaders, brand founders, business owners, practitioners and subject-matter experts for two days of conversations and practical learning.

With a programme spanning panel discussions and professional workshops, this year’s conference is designed to move beyond broad industry conversations, creating opportunities to examine real challenges, exchange knowledge and explore practical approaches to building a stronger beauty industry.
The Annual Stakeholder Engagement Forum: Advancing Professional Standards in Beauty
This year sees the return of the Annual Stakeholder Engagement Forum, organised by the National Technical Committee on Beautycare & Wellbeing Services, constituted by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

A key part of the Committee’s ongoing work has been the development and review of industry standards. In this regard, the Committee recently facilitated the public circulation of the Aesthetic Medicine Draft Standard, inviting feedback from relevant industry stakeholders. The responses received prompted further review of the draft and highlighted the need for broader stakeholder consultation and greater industry awareness of the proposed standard.
It is against this backdrop that this year’s forum will focus on Defining Competence in Aesthetic Medicine: Scope of Practice, Training and Professional Requirements. The discussion will bring together different professional perspectives to examine questions around practitioner qualifications, training, experience, scope of practice and the requirements for safe and competent service delivery.
By creating a platform for wider engagement on these issues, the forum aims to encourage informed dialogue, broaden awareness of the draft standard currently under review and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing standards development process.
The second session, Building Skills, Setting Standards: An Introduction to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Sector Skills Council for Beauty, Wellness & Care, will formally introduce the Council and its work to the wider industry. The session will explore its role in skills development, occupational standards, training and professional recognition, while creating an opportunity for businesses, practitioners and training providers to engage with the Council and contribute to identifying the industry’s skills needs.
Together, these sessions reflect an important part of building the industry we want: one supported by clearer standards, stronger skills development, professional competence and greater collaboration across the ecosystem.
Conversations Shaping African Beauty

This year’s programme takes a closer look at the opportunities and challenges facing African beauty businesses, with three panel discussions exploring different aspects of the industry’s growth.
From building and owning Africa’s beauty value chain to examining why African beauty brands are not always valued like their international counterparts, the conversations will explore product development, consumer trust, brand positioning and the future of locally developed beauty.

The programme will also feature The Founders’ Round-Table: How African Beauty Brands Build Customers, Not Just Hype, bringing together business founders to discuss the realities of building customer loyalty and sustainable beauty brands.
Another important discussion will address the growing challenge of counterfeiting, with Protecting Beauty Brands in a Counterfeit Economy examining the legal and commercial considerations involved in protecting beauty businesses, intellectual property and consumer trust.
Together, these discussions offer different perspectives on what it takes to build stronger, more competitive African beauty businesses.
New for 2026: Professional Workshops
One of the biggest additions to this year’s conference is the introduction of dedicated professional workshops.
Designed around real-world scenarios, case studies and practical applications, these sessions offer attendees an opportunity to move beyond industry discussions and engage with knowledge they can put to use in their businesses and professional practice.

Six workshops will take place across the two conference days, covering areas including tax compliance for Nigerian beauty businesses, facial anatomy and aesthetic decision-making, legal considerations for growing beauty businesses, salon management and professional standards, complexion colour theory, and nail technology.
Whether you’re a beauty entrepreneur navigating business compliance, a salon owner looking to strengthen operational standards or a practitioner seeking to deepen your technical knowledge, the workshops are designed to provide actionable insights and tangible takeaways.
It’s a new dimension to the conference experience, with a stronger emphasis on applied learning and professional development.
Building the Beauty Industry We Want
The conversations and learning opportunities featured in this year’s conference reflect a broader ambition for the African beauty industry.
Building a stronger sector requires more than successful brands and growing consumer demand. It calls for investment in professional skills, stronger business systems, improved standards, greater consumer confidence and collaboration across the different parts of the industry.
It also requires creating opportunities for the people working within the sector to learn from one another, share experiences and develop solutions to challenges that affect the wider ecosystem.
This is the thinking behind the 2026 conference programme. By bringing together business owners, practitioners, technical experts, legal professionals and industry stakeholders, the conference aims to create a space for conversations that are relevant not only to individual businesses, but to the continued development of the sector as a whole.
For Beauty Entrepreneurs, it is an opportunity to gain new perspectives on building and protecting their businesses.
For Practitioners, it offers access to specialist knowledge and opportunities to strengthen their professional practice.
For Industry Stakeholders, it provides a platform to engage with the issues, developments and opportunities shaping the future of African beauty.
