The days of ‘Mindless Consumption’ are over. Lucky for us, the average beauty consumer is considered one of the more intelligent on the industry-consumption spectrum; i.e. in comparison with other industries – food, technology, fashion, etc. Now couple that with the fact that, as a beauty service-provider, your clients have been sat at home for a little over 8weeks now, with most of them actively following what has been going on globally, educating themselves on how to stay safe and arming themselves with as much knowledge as they can. What this means is your customer in this new-era will be expecting a lot more from you in terms of the cleanliness and safety of your establishment.

Strict adherence to health & hygiene guidelines has always been mandatory for ALL service-providers in the beauty industry, however what this means now is they MUST be enforced and the client is on the lookout, armed with their newly acquired knowledge and will be very quick to call you out if you default.

As some beauty service-providers in the country have begun opening back up fully this week, your safety is ultimately your responsibility at this point. In this post, we want to outline a few ‘Checks’ that every Beauty Consumer should be on the lookout for:

  1. Do your research before you book an appointment. The beauty establishment may have the best health & hygiene standards put in place, but ultimately your safety is thoroughly in your hands. Check out their website/social media pages, a good beauty establishment should during this time be transparent about their Health & Hygiene Policies. If they don’t have this published, you can take that as a warning sign.
  2. Book Yourself an Appointment in Advance. During these times no beauty establishment should be encouraging walk-ins.
  3. Arrive, at the least, 5 minutes before your appointment. Ensure you are wearing your mask and have your own personal hand-sanitiser on you. Keep your mask on for the entire duration of your appointment, unless you’re getting a treatment that requires taking it off.
  4. Wash and Sanitise your hands in the premises BEFORE you head-in/sitdown for your treatment.
  5. Ask that your Therapist washes & sanitises their hands and receives a temperature check while in view. Also make sure they’re wearing their necessary PPE gear.
  6. Ask the Therapist/Manager if the area where they will be administering your service has been sanitised. Typically they should sanitise the area within your view.
  7. Feel free to ASK as many questions about ANY of their sanitization processes.
  8. Limit all conversation between you and your Therapist to the bare minimum.
  9. If you sense your Therapist may be showing signs of any illness, raise an alarm immediately
  10. Once your service is done, wash and sanitise your hands again (if you had to take your mask off for the service, put it back on before returning into the general area of the establishment).

As always, maintain social distancing (2 metres away from other clients), wear your mask and don’t touch your face! Remember to sanitise your mobile phones, keys or any other items you may have touched during your appointment.

Most importantly: Stay Alert, Stay SAFE
