Our ‘In Conversation With BeautyInLagos‘ (#inConvoWithBiL) trademark initiative was launched because we intend to make an impact, we want to drive intelligent conversations around beauty and create a safe environment where everyone can learn.

It’s now 3 weeks since the Beauty West Africa Exhibition wrapped, and we are all still getting flashbacks from how amazing the entire event was, particularly on Day 3 where we took over the conferences with #inConvoWithBiL. We hosted two panel discussions and we are so happy with the feedback we’ve received from Attendees! In this post I’ll do my best to provide a brief recap of all that went down during the Panel 1 discussions and then will publish another post covering Panel 2.

PANEL 1: TEARING DOWN THE ‘WALL OF SECRECY SURROUNDING COSMETIC SURGERY IN NIGERIA’

And TEAR DOWN, we did! This was such a dynamic, interactive and information-packed panel to witness. The panel discussion was preceded by a 45-minute documentary screening of BET’s: Killer Curves which explored the dangers of black-market body enhancement procedures in America. We then brought the conversation home to Nigeria, by discussing the possible dangers of cosmetic surgery here and what measures are in place to protect patients. We had a medical doctor on the panel who broke down the process of liposuction and how after getting the procedure a healthy lifestyle is no longer an option, but a necessity. We also had someone who’d undergone a cosmetic procedure here in Nigeria and she shared her process from making the decision, to selecting a surgeon and the post-surgery reality. There was a panelist who’d lost a bestfriend due to complications from a cosmetic procedure they had done, here in Nigeria also. So it was such an incredible conversation and we hope to have some video content to share on our YouTube very soon, but for now enjoy these pictures:
